All about Mountain Biking

Living close to Bunyaville Reserve we have been able to watch how Mountain Biking in our area has really grown in popularity over the past few years. Tom bought his first trail bike close to 4 years ago and it’s been an expensive but very rewarding few years for both of us!

What is Mountain Biking? Let’s quickly remove the image of your typical Road Cyclist (those Lycra shorts)! This is off-road cycling which can be a number of different styles. There is cross country, trail riding, enduro, downhill and more.

Tom’s favourite trails to ride in the Brisbane area are Bunyaville Reserve and Castle Hill - Blackstone Reserve. Bunyaville has almost 10kms worth of Mountain-bike trails. There is also picnic parks, bushwalking tracks and sealed footpaths. Castle Hill has over 13kms worth of trails!

All trails are marked with coloured shapes that indicate the trails difficulty. Green circles will indicate an easy trail for beginners right up to Black Diamond for the advanced riders.

Over the last few years, Tom has competed in a Downhill race and an Enduro race. He preferred the Enduro race because it suited his cycling style at the time.

In 2017 Tom travelled to Cairns to attend the Downhill World Championships. He was lucky enough to meet some of his idols: Sam Hill, Gwyn Masters, Luca Shaw, Loris Vergier and Loic Bruno the 2017 Winner!

Mountain Biking may not be great for your back pocket but it’s a thrilling and adventurous sport! It will take you to so many breathtaking places where you will meet enthusiastic riders. This sporting community is extremely helpful and forever encouraging to beginners.

If you are interested in Mountain Biking there is so much useful information on the internet to help you get started. Please also contact us if you have any questions that Tom can answer!
